I HAVE ALWAYS ENJOYED first calls works on paper. So I decided to put together a popery of work from a group of my personal favorites. Here you can chose from abstract to figurative to outsider art and probably some in between. Stuart Davis is quite simply a great artist. Bill Traylor and Henry Darger were considered outsider artists (although that definition seems to be changing daily). W H. Johnson was a first rate artist who spent the last 25 years or so of his life in an insane asylum (there is still a question as to why). Basquiat died tragically young, and Guston had perhaps more guts then any with the chances he took in his career. (Moral: Do what you believe, not what others believe you should do.) All in all, hopefully a little something for everyone that came to see. -John- |
